To Do in LA: Semi Precious Weapons (2 Shows @ The Viper Room in NOV.)

November 13th, 2009 by intr0vert

072009-SemiPreciousWeapons-003“I CAN’T PAY MY RENT BUT I’M FUCKING GORGEOUS!”

Recently signed to Perez Hilton’s label and even more recently signed to a huge deal with Interscope, New York glam punks SEMI PRECIOUS WEAPONS are a quartet of handsome gents burning high energy Rock N’ Roll that will sting your ears and tease your nethers. It’s danceably infectious AC/DC-meets-Rocky Horror swagger has been lighting up clubs for the past 3 years with fabulously filthy/gorgeous frontman Justin Tranter tearing up stages and after parties like a platinum-blond transvestite GODZILLA!

“I GOT A DIAMOND IN MY POCKET AND A GUN IN MY PURSE SCREAM SEMI PRECIOUS WEAPONS OR YOU MIGHT GET HURT!”

Rounding out the group is the unstoppable trio of Dynamite Drummer Dan Crean, Wig-Afficianato Guitarist Stevy Pyne and Bass Beast Cole Whittle using every inch of every stage at every show. As an exception to the rule, typically you would find an act that rocks this hard and dirty and looks this good to be light on real musical talent but SPW actually met at the prestigious Berklee College of music in Boston.

“STICKY WITH CHAMPAGNE, THAT’S OK IT’S HER BIRTHDAY!”

072009-SemiPreciousWeapons-019SPW will be doing 2 shows at The Viper Room in November: Friday the 13th & Wed the 25th. An excellent review of a trio of shows at The Viper Room last July can be found on their blog. A recent interview by Sunset Strip Ambassador and Buzzfinder Brent X. Mendoza with Lead Singer and Daytime Jewlery Designer Justin Tranter (Fetty) can be found @ TheSunsetStrip.com.

“HER HAIR, HER HAIR, HER HAIR IS ON FIRE! SHE DON’T NO WATER LET HER FUCKING HEAD BURN!”

Semi Precious Weapons are currently recording their follow up to 2008’s We Love You with Jack Joseph Puig in Los Angeles and will be opening for Lady Gaga on The Monster Ball Tour (LA Shows @ Nokia Dec 21-23).

“PUT A DIAMOND IN IT AND BITE DOWN!”

“ROCK AND ROLL NEVER LOOKED SO BEAUTIFUL!”

To Do in L.A.: KAV, LightFM, Obi Best & Wrong Way Driver @ Spaceland TONIGHT MON OCT 12th

October 12th, 2009 by intr0vert

KAV (myspace.com/kavsonic) is a person as well as a band. Kav himself was the guitarist for the reformed HAPPY MONDAYS, legendary in the UK. KAV, the band, just got off the road from a destructively brilliant week of shows with upstarts Esser and high-energy DATAROCK.

Tonight KAV will be at Spaceland (1717 Silverlake Blvd, LA) for KROQ’s “Locals Only” FREE MONDAYS with October Residents: LightFM as well as Obi Best and Wrong Way Driver. Like I said this is a FREE SHOW so stop down and enjoy some music from across the pond!

To Do in L.A. – Library w/The Devil’s Orchestra : Sunday Camerata @ Cinespace

January 30th, 2009 by intr0vert

The LibraryApril of last year I posted about The Devil’s Orchestra, an instrumental Sypmphonic Metal 3-piece that plays just about every Sunday at Cinespace in Hollywood. This Sunday they are playing with a band called The Library. Some people say they have a Sam Sparro/Scissor Sisters dance vibe. Should you finish with the Superbowl and feel the need to dance off the 2 lbs of Cheetos you consumed while watching the Cardinals get a mudhole stomped in their asses then definitely hit up Cinespace at Hollywood and Ivar. To Do in L.A. – The Midnight Show 12-6 @ UCB w/ Tim Kasher of Cursive

November 22nd, 2008 by intr0vert

I wanted to give you the heads up that one of my Top 5 favorite songwriters and a fellow NE-LA transplant Tim Kasher will be the musical guest for The Midnight Show @ the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in Hollywood on Sat, Dec 6th.

Tim is best known as the frontman of Saddle Creek bands Cursive and The Good Life and has recently made his foray into writing with his script for Help Wanted Nights to which he also wrote a soundtrack released as the last The Good Life album.

The Midnight Show happens @ the UCB on the first Saturday of the month and is kind of like SNL but a bit dirtier. It’s sketch comedy with a guest host, viral comedy shorts and a musical guest. The show also features and extremely talented cast, many of whom could conceivably be on SNL someday. This month’s guest host is Dax Shepard (Idiocracy).

Admission is a measly $5 and you can brown bag it. You will need a RESERVATION to get in and with this Host/Musical Guest/Cast Combo, this show will inevitably fill up FAST. Go to the UCB’s Website and RSVP now!

Saturday, December 6th

To Do in L.A.: Halloween/Dia De Los Muertos Novembre 1st.

October 29th, 2008 by intr0vert

From now on I want to spell October as Octobre…I think it will look nicer on posters. Novembre gets it too.

So what is going on in Hollywood on Halloween? I haven’t a Zombie-fucking clue! Unless I find an EPIC party, I’m just gonna get sexy and dance like last year, wherever that may be. But the day after will be a sweet treat for sure. On Novembre 1st after your hangover has been subdued by a rush of sugar via snack sized bags of black and orange M & M’s you can head over to Hollywood Forever Cemetery (6000 Santa Monica Blvd) from 4 – 11pm for Dia De Los Muertos. Be sure to put a sugar skull on Johnny Ramone’s Statue. More info @ LadyOfTheDead.com
