Evelyn Evelyn is a conjoined-twin duo under the “production” of Amanda Palmer (The Dresden Dolls) and Seattle folk-minstrel Jason Wembley. 3 arms, 2 heads, 1 sound. Album and Comic book coming later in the year on Dark Horse Comics. They will be playing Boston and touring Europe before a summer US tour. It’s good to see weirdness and creativity hanging out shamelessly in the world.

On the last night of a month-long tour, Esser and DATAROCK (and KAV for the West Coast) were playing a venue in Seattle rhat completely dropped the ball with the show’s production. The sound was terrible and non-existent in the monitors and the promoter was not-to-be-found until about 10pm and booked this terrible hipster rap act that ate up the headliner’s set time and threw water all over the stage (which doesn’t mix well with electronics!). Also, Seattle (and maybe all of Washington) has this bogus law about “No alcoholic beverages onstage”. All in all, it was a weird scene. But we made the best of it until finally the band was asked to stop playing around 1:30 am.
On top of this, the last night of any tour is subject to some ribbing, some hijinks…you know, shenanigans. One camera can’t possible do this night justice but I can hope that this sheds a little light on the situation. A cautionary tale.
I checked out Candlebox at the Roxy tonight and I’m a little depressed right now. During the show the lead singer started talking about how L.A. seems dead, how expensive the rents are getting and how shot the economy is… man, I really don’t want to hear about that. I thought shows were there so we could escape the day to day?
But actually my D2D has been pretty rad lately (thanks for asking). I’ve been enjoying the sunshine, I get to go to a Bar-B-Q at noon tomorrow and I’m making progress with my Motorcycle (still need to get the timing checked out).
Another thing that kind of bummed me out about the show were the cougars running around. I remember when Candlebox came out, I was into music a little before most of my class so I wasn’t even old enough to drive but in my mind it doesn’t seem like it was that long ago but really it was over 15 years ago now! Let’s say that some of their fans haven’t stopped partying. I felt worried for them… and maybe myself.
