Living doll Janelle Monáe will finally be releasing her “debut” album The ArchAndroid on May 18 of this year. I know, that seems pretty far in the future, well, that’s how Cindi Mayweather rolls. Fret not, she has released two tracks “Tightrope” (f/Big Boi of Outkast) and “Cold War” which you can preview on her website and will be touring this spring. Prepare to be inspired if you haven’t seen or heard Ms. Monáe live, I’m convinced she’s a cyborg. No mortal woman can dance that hard and sing so pitch-perfectly…unless it’s actually Prince in drag.
For a little background on Janelle Monáe consult the AvantTrash “You Should Know” post from September 2008.

WARNING! IF NAME-DROPPING MAKES YOU SICK THEN THIS POST IS THE DEADLY MUTABA VIRUS!
I’ve got the Eagle Eye, yo. I’ve been spotting screen gems all over the city. 4 of the last 5 days this week I have seen a celebrity of some merit. I’d say in normal day-to-day life I average one sighting for every two weeks or so but this week has been nuts! (Too bad you weren’t visiting) Of course I didn’t get my NEW CAMERA until just tonight… but ain’t that always the way. Here are a few sightings I’ve had this week (read the keywords below for a preview):

Isn’t it great when everything just comes together perfect?

I didn’t plan on seeing Jamie Lidell tonight at the Avalon here in Hollywood. But it just so happened that a very generous contact at Filter Magazine hooked me up with a pair of tickets to see him. I wouldn’t have gone if a friend hadn’t posted a facebook message asking if anyone was gonna go. I think because both messages landed within 10 minutes of each other then it was probably a sign (that I should get back to work and stop checking my email). But really, I wasn’t too familiar with Jamie Lidell’s work, I’ve somehow always confused him with a bunch of Hotel Cafe artists. But he put on an interesting show! He has a good band, he has a good energy and he’s like a mix between Bill Nye – The Science Guy and Elvis Costello (sans guitar). But I think what really pulled the universe in alignment was the privilege of seeing “next big thing” soul progeny Janelle Monáe.
