Orianthi “According to You” iTunes Free Single of the Week

October 29th, 2009 by intr0vert

Orianthi_SOTW_200x200If you’ve seen Michael Jackson’s This Is It or if you’ve been paying attention to AvantTrash.com since June then you’ve been hearing us talk about MJ’s 24-year-old Australian virtuoso guitarist Orianthi. Her solo album Believe was just released on October 24th and her first single “According to You” is the iTunes Free Single of the Week. It’s poppier than most of what we would recommend here (It’s kinda Kelly Clarkson with a guitar) but this woman is defnitely the total package and worth checking out. Download the single and if you don’t like it then it’s still worth the price.

Sea Wolf’s “Wicked Blood” Video & Twilight Set in Hollywood!

October 29th, 2009 by intr0vert

One of my favorite albums of late summer/early fall is Sea Wolf’s latest White Water, White Bloom (itunes). There is something soothing and hypnotic about the rhythm of Alex Church’s acoustic guitar that, when paired with his lazily romantic lyrics makes this record work amazingly well in more intimate, laid back environments. I was also bumping it in the tour van for a string of dates up and down the west coast. Now I can’t hear this record and not think about the changing leaves.

In the spirit of Halloween, below is the video for “Wicked Blood” off of White Water, White Bloom starring fan of the LA music scene Shannyn Sossamon (Rules of Attaction, A Knight’s Tale). I met her once sitting next to her at an Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros concert at The Regent downtown and she was even more beautiful in person. Speaking of beautiful actors…

Because AvantTrash is a very vampire friendly place, I’m glad to announce that on November 6th, Sea Wolf, alongside Band of Skulls, Death Cab for Cutie and Anya Marina will be performing in a special Twilight: New Moon event at Hollywood & Highland in Los Angeles. Select cast members will be on hand for a Q&A afterwards. Bring your earplugs, the vampy teens will be in full effect.

Tegan & Sara’s 6th Full-Length Album Sainthood came out yesterday, go get it! It’s the first record that the Canadian twins have ever written together in the same room in their 29 years! Just like 2007’s The Con, it was recorded by Chris Walla from Death Cab for Cutie in Portland. They are currently on tour with dates going through April 8th.

Review: Michael Jackson’s This Is It

October 28th, 2009 by DeadLanternMaT

alg_jacko_rehearsal

Everybody on the planet knows that Michael Jackson died this past summer and everybody knows that he was in the middle of rehearsing for a 50 date stint in London. That tour was entitled This Is It and as the name implies, was to be the final live performances of his career. After his death, Jackson’s representatives revealed that everything, including dress rehearsals, had been filmed by the production company putting the show on. They decided to make a film as a final gesture to fans (and, no doubt, to recoup millions of dollars lost on the production itself) so everybody could see what the King of Pop had planned for his last act. I scored some tickets to the preview screening in Lincoln tonight and just got back from seeing the flick. I know you are all curious about the big question: does he look like he’s about to fall over and die, or is he the vibrant performer we all remember? Read on…

Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day

October 21st, 2009 by intr0vert

Opens OCTOBER 30TH? Where has the ADVERTISING been for this? NAMEDROP ALERT: I met Clifton Collins, Jr. a few weeks ago in a VIP area and he was a totally nice guy. Seems like he’s had weird facial hair for a lot of his movies lately! I’m looking forward to this one!

A tour melts down. A tribute to DATAROCK.

October 18th, 2009 by intr0vert

On the last night of a month-long tour, Esser and DATAROCK (and KAV for the West Coast) were playing a venue in Seattle rhat completely dropped the ball with the show’s production. The sound was terrible and non-existent in the monitors and the promoter was not-to-be-found until about 10pm and booked this terrible hipster rap act that ate up the headliner’s set time and threw water all over the stage (which doesn’t mix well with electronics!). Also, Seattle (and maybe all of Washington) has this bogus law about “No alcoholic beverages onstage”. All in all, it was a weird scene. But we made the best of it until finally the band was asked to stop playing around 1:30 am.

On top of this, the last night of any tour is subject to some ribbing, some hijinks…you know, shenanigans. One camera can’t possible do this night justice but I can hope that this sheds a little light on the situation. A cautionary tale.

Nirvana – “School” from Live at Reading

October 13th, 2009 by intr0vert

Last week I posted about the upcoming DVD for Live At Reading and Amazon who was hosting the “School” video wasn’t allowing an embed, so here it actually is! Reminisce over the best band of the 1990’s. Don’t debate me, fuck you for trying!

The Dyson Air Multiplier: James Dyson is a witch!

October 13th, 2009 by intr0vert

Dyson Air Multiplier

Firstly I should note that I own a Dyson Vacuum. Of course it’s amazing. I believe it cost $150 more than my LCD TV and I’m glad I didn’t have to buy it myself. (No, my parents didn’t buy it for me either!)

I’m convinced that the Henry Ford of Brits, James Dyson, must be an alien. First he perfects the vacuum with cyclonic technology after every company he brought it to laughed him out of the room and now he’s perfected the FAN as well with the Dyson Air Multiplier. After a bit of a tease concerning the “next household item perfected” his website revealed the product and soon collapsed under the weight of the Eastern World checking it out. (BTW WAKE UP, AMERICA! You’re missing a technological breakthrough while the limeys are having their tea and biscuits [they really mean cookies but they don't say anything right]) The Air Multiplier (not a D&D spell!) has NO BLADES and produces a steady breeze instead of the “Choppy” job that every fan has done since DaVinci took a swing. All of the sudden regular fans have become the bullshit invention that the Cathode Ray Tube Television now is. Who wants that crap when this crap has been perfected and made out of gray and purple plastic with an LED? BOOM! You’re welcome world! James & Co. figured it out. What’s next? The matressless bed.

Hey, JD, how about you hook us up with The Hoverboard already!

To Do in L.A.: Dia De Los Muertos!

October 12th, 2009 by intr0vert

I posted about this event this time last year and a lot of people have been searching for it lately (at least 63 of you today alone!). So I figured I would repost with the new information so you are privy to the new shit.

On Octobre 24th head over to Hollywood Forever Cemetery (6000 Santa Monica Blvd) from 4 – 11pm for Dia De Los Muertos. It’s $10 and they make it a point to tell you No Dogs, No Coolers and…No Skateboards? Im sure there has been some axle grinding on Valentino’s Crypt or something to prompt this rule. It’s not like you can ride very smoothly on the cemetery’s driveway or anything.

Be sure to put a sugar skull on Johnny Ramone’s Statue.

Tonight KAV will be at Spaceland (1717 Silverlake Blvd, LA) for KROQ’s “Locals Only” FREE MONDAYS with October Residents: LightFM as well as Obi Best and Wrong Way Driver. Like I said this is a FREE SHOW so stop down and enjoy some music from across the pond!

Joe Perry Project @ The Viper Room 10-6-09

October 7th, 2009 by intr0vert

10062009-JoePerryViper It was a very Perry Tuesday at the Viper Room last night as Aerosmith’s six-string slinger took the stage as The Joe Perry Project to mark the release of his new solo record, Have Guitar, Will Travel; his first since 1983*. It was like Guitar Hero:Viper Room as legends of rock began to stream in the Larrabee door for the show. Decked out in bales of hay and cow skulls, the downstairs lounge carried the album’s western theme and became the VIP area where an open bar of “Admiral Perry’s Mojitos**” flowed throughout the night. As guests lined the sidewalks waiting to get into the SOLD OUT show they were treated to the arrivals of rock royals Slash, Perry (Jane’s Addiction) & Etty Farrell, Nikki Sixx (Motley Crue) & Kat Von D, Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine, The Nightwatchman) and a slightly creepy Steven Tyler look-alike who gave the fans a quick cheer… and a disappointed “aaaaaawgh”. Nirvana to release “Live At Reading” CD & DVD

October 7th, 2009 by intr0vert

Nirvana Live at Reading

Ranked #1 in Kerrang Magazine’s “100 Gigs That Shook The World” and voted as “Nirvana’s #1 Greatest Moment” by fans in an NME poll, Nirvana’s historic August 30, 1992 headlining appearance at the UK’s Reading Festival is one of the most bootlegged concerts in the annals of rock n roll. Now, fans will have an opportunity to own a pristine copy of that entire performance — color-corrected video from the original film with audio sourced from the original multi-track masters. Nirvana Live At Reading will be issued in a limited edition CD+DVD Deluxe Edition as well as DVD-only, CD-only configurations on November 3, 2009, followed by a 2LP version on November 17, 2009.
