Slash and Steven Adler of Guns ‘N Roses gang up at The Viper Room
Living in LA provides the advantageous opportunity to see some pretty big stars jump onstage unexpectedly and play a couple songs with their friends. Last night’s show at The Viper Room (AliUptown’s Bday! 8-29-2009) was one of these occasions when not 1 but 2 of the original 5 members of Guns ‘N Roses joined the band Aces ‘N’ Eights to play “It’s So Easy” and “Mama Kin” at the end of their set. Slash appeared amiable but a bit withdrawn onstage. Of course he shredded ass like only he can. Adler seemed elated to be playing again with the guitar god and did a good job on the old songs.
I was outside talking to friends when Slash arrived in backwards cap about 30 mins before he went onstage. I was tempted to run home and grab my copy of his Autobiography that I just started reading. I do love living 440 ft from The Viper Room.
Thanks to some prodigious retweeting on behalf of Nathan Levinson from The Viper Room one of my Twitpic’d photos even made it onto a post @ Blabbermouth.net about the evening. (Thanks for the photo credit!) Though GNR Keyboard player Dizzy Reed was playing his final night of a month-long Saturday residency at The Viper Room; a 3-piece Guns ‘N Roses jam did not break out as all in attendance were hoping would happen. I believe some politics were involved. I speak for every fan in the world when I say, Axl, please find some peace with yourself and your old bandmates so we can see the best Rock and Roll band of the last 25 years together in top form. The Sunset Strip wants you all back!
Earlier in the week The Viper Room was also witness to another of my personal Guitar Heroes joining the band onstage when Steve Stevens (Billy Idol) joined Ginger Wildheart and Billy Morrison for an inspired version of Rebel Yell.
Exciting things going on over here West Hollywood. Let’s make a deal Los Angeles, you stop pretending you hate The Strip and we’ll keep showing you a good time. Deal?
