The Freakshow Continues….

sarah-palinSarah Palin is gold for Democrats. Strike that…she’s platinum. She is the absolute most valuable asset the Democrats have against Republicans. She’s worth far more to us than Rush or Dick or Steele or Newt. In fact, the only Republican on earth who is worth more is George Bush, but he’s apparently gone into witness protection since the election. Every time Sarah Palin opens her mouth, either something stupid comes out or something hilarious ensues. Platinum.

When John McCain picked this unqualified idiot for vice president he virtually conceded the presidency to Barack Obama. I will be eternally grateful to John McCain for that. Conservatives love Sarah Palin. Infatuated is probably a better term. So much so that they believe this weird mythology about her. That she is a fiscal champion (even though as mayor of Wasilla she left the town 20 million dollars in debt). That she fights government waste (she actively supported the “Bridge to Nowhere”, then flip-flopped, then took the government money anyway). That she is the very definition of ethics (she was found guilty of abuse of power in the Troopergate scandal by a Republican dominated committee). She’s been a complete fraud from the beginning and even Alaskans have taken notice as her approval rating has plummeted 30 points in the past few months. But now the freakshow has gotten even better

Palin has quit.

Not only is this chick a fraud, but she’s a quitter. Pundits, caught by surprise, are already trying to understand her particular brand of crazy. Is she prepping for a 2012 presidential run? God I hope so. Every Democrat in this country wants to see the Republicans nominate Sarah Palin in 2012. Or Mike Huckabee. But really, Sarah Palin would be perfect. However, I don’t see it. This chick bails as governor half way through her 1st term because she can’t stand the heat…and then runs for president? Nah, ain’t gonna happen. I almost wish she would so Barack could turn to her and ask “Well, if you win, are you going to quit after 2 years?”

Is she about to be busted by the Feds? According to a local Alaska radio host, rumors have been buzzing for the past few weeks that the Feds are about ready to indict the Palin’s in an embezzlement scheme. Poetic justice for all those conservatives who said Barack was just another corrupt Illinois politician. Seems that maybe the Palin’s were just another in a long line of corrupt Alaskan politicians? I guess we’ll see.

Or is Palin just tired of the scrutiny? I wouldn’t blame Palin for quitting if she truly stayed out of the spotlight. She was obviously not ready for the Big Time and the glare that comes with being a national figure may not have been something she felt she could handle anymore. If it turns out that all the embezzlement rumors are unfounded, then I wish her well in living a secluded family life. If her choice is to live a quiet life with her family as a private citizen, then by all means, the media should leave her be. However, I don’t believe she’ll do that. In fact, I’ll bet she writes books and makes television appearances and continues to use whatever political leverage she has. So I’ll have no sympathy for her when the next round of eviscerations occur. And we’ll all laugh about how conservatives supported a woman who bailed on the voters who elected her because she couldn’t handle the scrutiny in office…but will no doubt handle it just fine when she’s making tons of money as a celebrity out of office (y’know, the very thing conservatives say Barack is. It all comes full circle).

In the end, the freakshow that is Sarah Palin will continue for months to come. It’ll be a goldmine for Democrats, especially if it turns out she’s a crook. For Palin’s sake, I’d recommend she just go away; riding her snowmobile (fuck calling it “snow machine”) quietly into the night. But if she doesn’t, then I’m not gonna lie: I’m going to enjoy the coming months/years of entertainment that Sarah Palin will provide.
