Conservatives fighting the wrong fight

In response to Charlie Rose mentioning that Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor was intelligent, Karl Rove responded “I know lots of stupid people who went to ivy league schools.” Don’t you hate those Freudian slips?

DVD/CD Soundtrack Release of True Blood, Season 1

May 30th, 2009 by AliUptown

Surprise, surprise a post that’s long overdue. Another thing that might not shock you is that I was at Best Buy at 10 a.m. the day the True Blood Season 1 DVD and soundtrack were released. That’s right, had to get it right then, even though I couldn’t watch it until I got home from work. And I also need to add to the ridiculousness of it all by mentioning I live a block away from Best Buy. I can’t always explain why I do the things I do.

To President Obama: Prosecute Cookieboarding

May 28th, 2009 by DeadLanternMaT

As I write my first post for the amazing and astounding avanttrash.com (slurpage is required in the job description) I am reminded of all the great people who brought me to this apex of my amateur blogging career. First to my mother, who without her uwavering support I would…..wait, what? You say I’ve joined a website even less well-known than the one I was a part of before? Wait a minute! I don’t get paid for my contributions to this site either?! Unbelievable! And here I believed T.J.’s sweet nothings only to find out that his tongue not only tickles, but is silver laced! Moral of the story: never trust a horny guitar player :)

In any event, I’m going to be the new “political correspondent” for avanttrash. I’ll be posting liberal propaganda from time to time and telling you why Republicans are douchebags (and sometimes, Democrats). Though I was born in the worst Catholic hospital in the country (Screw you, St. Francis)  in good old Grand Island, Nebraska, I spent a decade living in the liberal utopia known as  California (Redlands, to be exact). It was at this time that the California public education system properly indoctrinated me into liberal philosophy, probably because of the horror and shame they were feeling (thanks, Reagan!). I’ve known T.J. and Ali for about 10 years now and “directed” both in a horror film called The Grand Horror. If you’ve ever wondered what T.J. is like as an actor, stop wondering, because he isn’t one. :)

In all seriousness, I want to thank T.J., Ali, and the other avanttrash contributers for bringing me into the fold. I have a very pro-flame war bias when it comes to politics and I expect there might be some fun times coming in the future. I also want to thank my co-hosts and supporters over at the Splattercast. I can’t wait for the inevitable “Benedict Arnold” and “Et tu Mathias?” e-mails. Deadlantern is way more interesting a site without me anyway, right? :)

With that, I hereby demand that President Obama not be a pussy and prosecute Cookie Monster. The law is the law and I don’t care how many Sesame Street fans argue that they “only” did it to one terrorist.

This just in: Dollhouse gets picked up for another season, my jaw gets picked up off floor.

May 18th, 2009 by AliUptown

Clearly, I am both excited and surprised that FOX picked Dollhouse up for a second season. Nerds rejoice! I really never thought it would happen, not in a million years but it seems that DVR-viewing & online streaming saved the low-rated sci-fi show. In fact, it may be the lowest-rated series ever to get a renewal in the history of broadcast TV.

Apparently, Joss Whedon promised he could put out a second season on a smaller budget (which he’s done before). It’s also apparently going to stay at Friday’s @ 9, and will be about 6 minutes shorter per episode, since FOX’s ‘Remote-free’ viewing was a bust. BTW, the video after the jump is a random clip from my fave episode-yay Alan Tudyk!!! I got a little boner at 2:27.

The Vanishing – “Lovesick” (Shot on a Toy Camera)

May 14th, 2009 by SocialIntellect

This video for The Vanishing‘s “Lovesick” was shot entirely on the PXL 2000, essentially a fisher-price kiddie camcorder made in 1987. It uses audio cassette tapes to record black and white 15 f/ps movies.

Your Opinion? Fritz Helder & The Phantoms

May 7th, 2009 by intr0vert

Fritz Helder & The Phantoms

Here’s a new artist that I kind of absorbed as a Terrence Trent D’Arby meets Scissor Sisters thing. It’s a Glam/Electro outfit called Fritz Helder & The Phantoms from Toronto. I’m not sure if I’m onboard with it but I figured I’d let you make your own judgements. Here is an MP3 of their single “Lagerfeld Lady” remixed by Dragonette.

The band’s debut record, Greatest Hits, drops July 7th via Nelstar Music. Drop us a comment and tell us what you think. Enjoy!

One-Man-Band: Andy Shauf “Darker Days” Album Review

May 6th, 2009 by intr0vert

andy shaufOne of the good things about music today is how it doesn’t seem to matter where it’s made anymore. It used to be that bands spent months in the studio and millions of dollars on engineers and producers to build their magnum opuseseses..es. But with changes in technology and the rise of the MP3, albums today are more often than not made in houses, garages and in the case of 20-year-0ld Andy Shauf, bedrooms! According to his bio Andy Schauf’s friends didn’t even know he was making music until he was nearly finished with High School.  “I hid my songs,” Andy Said. “I didn’t share my musical side with my friends until the twelfth grade. I was just kind of embarassed.” Since the age of 14 he has been recording demos of his music which he compiled 11 of into his debut record Darker Days out later this month. It’s the kind of record that’s rough, but sweet. It’s really raw but completely tender.

Alice in Wonderland 18 Rows X 18 Columns

May 6th, 2009 by intr0vert

My good friend Duck pointed me towards this beautiful visual substitute for 3 minutes of an Acid trip. It’s a mix of sounds and visuals from Alice in Wonderland arranged in a beautifully trippy way. I mean, Alice in Wonderland is already nuts but this is seriously inducing flashbacks. Click here to follow me down the Rabbit Hole. Below is the video and song in its singular form but I suggest you click the link and not plan on operating heavy machinery this evening.
