Thanks to Filter Magazine, I have been getting exposed to all sorts of great indie music scenes. I’ve been given the opportunity to see and hear new music that I might otherwise not have been exposed to. Now, our brilliant faithful readers will also reap the awards, because it’s contest time!!!

Celebrating rave reviews for their debut album, Rush, Black Gold are hitting the road on the national “Illuminate Yourself” tour with Arizona indie-rockers, Lydia, kicking off this Thursday in Albuquerque! Not only is the tour bringing together two of the hottest bands on the road, it is also helping raise awareness for local charities through a national “Illuminate Your City” contest, where one fan in each market will win tickets to the show and space at the merch table to showcase their local cause. One grand prize winner will win a $1,000 donation to their charity at the end of the tour.

I missed out on seeing Black Gold once, and I was sore about it. My co-author introduced me to them, and was lucky enough to see them live at the Knitting Factory last August. Needless to say, I am overdue to see them perform. I’m also pretty jazzed to see Arizona-based indie kids, Lydia, My roommate is friends with their guitarist, Ethan. They’re good people, they slept on our floor. I’ll throw a word up about their show too. It’ll be a good time and if you are goin to the Chicago show, look for the curvy redhead with a camera, and come say ‘hey’.
