My friends/associates at Dead Lantern Productions are having an open casting call for their next movie. So if you are in or around NEBRASKA then email deadcasting@gmail.com to get involved!

Josh Freese is one of the best whore session drummers out there. His father was a music director and Tuba Player at Disneyland which led to Josh’s first work. Since then he has sat behind the kit for the Vandals, Paul Westerberg, Sting, DEVO, Nine Inch Nails and A Perfect Circle, to name VERY FEW.
On Valentines of 2001 I got to meet Mr. Freese in Ft.Worth with A Perfect Circle and he was an amazingly nice, funny and generous guy, he even gave us backstage passes (which are never as great as you think unless you are a teenage groupie). At the time he was releasing his solo record The Notorious One Man Orgy.
And unlike today, the music business was still booming in 2001. So with his newest solo record, Since 1972, Josh is soliciting a few “Limited Edition” options for it’s release. So like I said, Josh is a funny guy. Along with the standard Download Only and CD/DVD Editions; he is offering (for various nominal fees), the opportunity to bridge the gap between artist and fan. Howso? Well… let me just copy it for you…
Okay, I assume most people relatively savvy to the internets know about Hulu-that’s not what this post is about. But I do love it verah much. Fell asleep to ‘A League of their Own’ last night. Thanks Hulu!
I’m also digging their commercials-you probably saw Alec Baldwin’s version if you watched the Superbowl. But when I saw Eliza Dushku’s, I was overcome by the sexiness and the evil slayer/dollhouse active fantasies that followed. That thing she did with her tongue…??? See for yourself.
Once again, Filter Magazine has given AvantTrash the hook up, and we must pass the blessings on to our readers. Up for grabs is a signed copy of The Little Ones‘ debut album on vinyl, Morning Tide and a t-shirt. The music of TLO has been described as ‘freakishly infectious’, and I dare you to be in a bad mood after listening to them. Dare ya.
Here’s a little taste of The Little Ones, with a music video for their title track, “Morning Tide”. It’s fun, sunny California, put-you-in-a-good-mood music. And as I’ve said before, handclaps make me happy.
Thanks to Filter Magazine, I have been getting exposed to all sorts of great indie music scenes. I’ve been given the opportunity to see and hear new music that I might otherwise not have been exposed to. Now, our brilliant faithful readers will also reap the awards, because it’s contest time!!!
Is there such a thing as coke flashbacks? I totally just made that one up.
I thought this was a pretty sick live performance. It was like my wet dream music fantasy megamix. The Boys were honored with the “Outstanding Contribution” award. Nice and vague. And I’ll be honest, Lady GaGa is totally my guilty pleasure. I don’t care if she made her outfit out of china plates, wears bows made of hair, or non-pants outfits. She’s fucking wierd and a little off-looking and I dig it. I dig her look, her songs, her videos…so there.
Brandon Flowers sounded like shit. But man, that was a rad performance. It’s the bloody Pet Shop Boys, sweetie darling.
Sorry folks, for the 2nd time this week a rather lengthy post offed itself due to WordPress. (I’ll miss you 1000 words of Friday the 13th review!) I’ll have to rewrite this review tonight. I’m in the process of moving to my new place in West Hollywood and have had shows to go to lately so theres no time in the world. I had to work today, what kind of crap is that? Fucking Recession.
In Stores TODAY!
Spoiler: Morrissey’s – Years of Refusal (Lost Highway Records) gets a 6.8/10, and sits in the shadow of You Are The Quarry but not too far. This album has a lot of strengths in its Jerry Finn (RIP) produced Arena-Shoegaze un-Anthems and blurs the line of Rock and Ballad-Core (I made it up). Overall great but splotchy at times unless you are willing to overlook Morrissey’s regular crimes of poetry and boo-hooetry(I made that up, too).
I posted a long and brilliant review of the movie I just saw at the Chinese Theatre but then POOF it’s gone. No autosave, no nothing. (It weas over 1,000 words EASY. So now it’s past 4am and I have to go to work in the morning and have no review to show for it. If I had emotions, I would cry right now. Goddamn this cursed fucking day.
I don’t know about you, but there have def been times whereist I wanted to stab a bitch with my stiletto, SWF style. Actually, that thought crosses my mind most days, even when I’m not wearing heels. It’d be even cooler if I emptied a clip from my Chanel gunshoe, but buying them would render me homeless. In which case, the gunshoe would become just that much more needed. Still, I know and you know, and Bush knows that even just the shoe itself can be dangerous.
This is the season finale of a web series called The Lone Wolf that my friends Chad Fogland and Bennie Arthur produced and directed. I was an extra in the last 2 episodes but I recommend you watch it from the beginning. Its an action comedy in the vain of Lorenzo Llamas’ The Renegade or The Fall Guy. It stars Matt Peters with an assortment of LA Comedy Who’s Who. This episode features David Mendenhall (the kid from OVER THE TOP all grows up), Don “Hollywood” Yates (‘Wolf’ from American Gladiators) Ron Lynch (Tom Goes To The Mayor), Spencer Brown AND MANY MORE!
As of the beginning of February, AvantTrash.com in its current incarnation celebrated its first birthday. Thanks to everyone who visits, comments, emails us, sends us CDs to review, puts on guest lists and surprises me in actual conversations by complimenting me on something written on the site. That blows my mind and you are fucking amazing!
It means a lot and I’m glad we have something to offer. We started with ZERO audience like every site and I’m glad to say that we are now averaging over 3,000 hits weekly!
So in return, we will be sending Promo CDs to the friends of this site and immigrant friends from Horror Fansite DeadLantern.com. For those unfamiliar, I contribute to Dead Lantern’s World Famous Splattercast, a horror podcast of the highest caliber. We think so anyway. And were even written about in a recent article: Suite101.com
AvantTrash has existed in one form or another since 2003. It used to be hosted by my friend Duck at Ibusol computers when I lived in Lincoln, NE. Sadly all of that work is lost in the ether leaving no trace of my posts. I just have the HTML and Image files from it so long ago. But the best moment ever from that site came at a party where 2 guys came to kick my ass because one thought I was messing with his wife (which I wasn’t, we were just friends) and after I explained to him that we were just having a drink and hanging out he told me that he loved the way I wrote and cited a specific post that was very long and mostly listed out the specific things I missed at the time. I wish I still had that post.
February 14th marks my 2 year anniversary here in L.A. and as of Wednesday I will be moving to a new apartment behind the Whisky-A-Go-Go just north of Sunset Blvd. It has a great view, I will be paying less than in Hollywood and hopefully this will lead to more live reviews or a return to the music biz.
It should at least make for some interesting stories. I will after all be living across the street from Motley Crue’s den of depravity. There must be some cool neighbors left over.
My friend Anthea worked on this web series called Zombies, Inc which takes place in a zombie casting agency. Clever concept! Her official title on the show is FX Supervisor. You can see her in the photos at the end as the blonde being eaten by the zombie. She does really good makeup herself and her Idaho license plate reads ZOMB GRL. She lives in a bungalow built in Universal City for the cast of Alfred Hitchcock films, how cool is that?
Books on tape. Well, not so much tape as CD. And not even CD really, cause it’s on my iTunes. So…books on mp3 I guess. The story goes…
I’ve read all of Charlaine Harris’ Southern Vampire Mystery books, and also love the crap out of True Blood (say what?). Not surprisingly, I sung the HBO show’s praises to everyone who would listen, or pretend to listen. My brother (Brother One, for now) got into the show, thanks to yours truly, and I recommended he read the books. So at Thanksgiving, I brought the first 3 books of the series home for him to read.
On Wed, Feb 4th, Lux Interior (neé Erick Lee Purkhiser) of the seminal (at times semenal) punk band THE CRAMPS died of a “prexisting heart condition”. He died in Glendale and was just 62 years old. I can’t decide which is worse. (Yes I can, it’s Glendale).
Ali lurves the Strangers With Candy. So do I really but she’s got all the episodes on DVD (minus one missing disc!) and how the hell could you not love Jerri Blank?!?
Amy Sedaris is crazy brilliant! And maybe not so much as Jerri Blank, but Amy is hot! Anytime I’ve seen her on talk shows she is like a firecracker full of bees on amphetamines. She’s so spunky, crafty and hilarious! Oh and she seems nutters, too; which is kind of a turn on. (Man, what is wrong with me?)
The entire First Season of SWC is now up on Hulu! Enjoy!
Before Colbert had a nation, he had Flatpoint High.
Eddie Monsoon and Patsy Stone have had a special place in my heart for I don’t know how long. I think perhaps I stumbled across it whilst channel surfing at some point in my teens. Or maybe the planets just aligned and something cosmic and magic happened so that I would purposely accidentally discover the glory that is Ab Fab. Never heard of, you say? I’m sorry. When Buddy Holly died 50 years ago today, he was only 22. But I feel as if music still hasn’t caught up. In that short amount of time he spent on earth he forged a legacy that has kept him as relevant as he was in 1959. Buddy was the real thing. He wrote his own songs, his ideas were as far “out there” as any could be (pre-LSD). Because you’ve heard his songs a million times then maybe you don’t notice it, but his croon, warble and hiccup vocal delivery is other worldly. His rhythm guitar playing is so simple, subtle and sophisticated that you probably don’t notice how FAST he is really playing! On top of all of that his peculiar studio methods and instrumentation would precursor the innovations of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. (The Beatles also took their name in part from The Crickets and the ‘Stones had an early hit with “Not Fade Away”) His influence is immeasurable to the degree that you would be hard-pressed to find a legend who WASN’T influenced by the bespectacled son of Lubbock, Texas. For that reason, Buddy Holly Lives!
