Weekly Trashing: WTF, Mamma Mia over Dark Knight?
I am embarrassed for civilization that Mamma Mia beat Dark Knight in DVD sales. Christ America, really? I was in line behind some woman buying that stupid shit at Target whilst Christmas shopping. She told me it was a present, and I really did have to bite my tongue to keep myself from telling her that she should go back and get The Dark Knight instead, and that no one deserves to unwrap that on Christmas. No one.
Speaking of no one, that’s exactly who got me the DVD for Christmas. Poo. And then of course, I tried to buy it for myself, and every place in my widdle biddy town was sold out. All I wanted to do was watch Dark Knight with my family. I also would have accepted this creepy-real doll in my stocking. Oh well.
I still think maybe I should have gone for it and done a hot chick Joker for Halloween. I only saw a couple dude Joker/Nurses out in Wicker Park. I messed around with a Chelsea Grin-type idea (cause I like to play with makeup). Turned out pretty decent. Better than this guy.
I find it interesting that China banned the release of Dark Knight due to ‘cultural sensitivities’. Stop being so sensitive! Between the depiction of a Chinese villian that is kidnapped and taken to the US for punishment, and Edison Chen‘s sex scandal earlier this year (that dude is like an Asian Pete Wentz, I swear), Warner Bros. did not even offer it to Chines government censors for consideration. I guess those factors could be a potential PR disaster, but considering that bootlegs versions of Dark Knight have been circulating China for months, it seems a bit of a waste.
I had the unfortunate opportunity to sit through Mamma Mia on Broadway a few years ago. My brother thought it sounded like fun, but even he-avid ABBA fan-regrets those two hours of his life that he will NEVER GET BACK. Ugh. I myself have never felt comfortable with ABBA. Mamma Mia certainly did not help their cause. Please don’t buy it. Buy Dark Knight, or at least the second season of Metalocalypse or some shit. That’s all.
