Happy Belated, Dita!

I know, I missed it by a few days-better late than never. The woman who single-handedly brought on a revival of burlesque and retro-glamour, Dita Von Teese, turned 36 on the 28th of September. She spent her birthday in Paris, shopping and looking flawless, I’m sure. She had a celebration of sorts the week previous when she launched her line of sexy lingerie, Science of Sexy for Wonderbra. Check out nerd-hot Dita in the video promo for her newest entrepreneurial venture:

Speaking of birthdays, I bought her book, Burlesque/Fetish and the Art of the Teese as a birthday present to myself. She actually has many poignant things to say about how to be sexy. She’s the first to admit that sexiness is confidence, not stockings and garters. I learned a thing or two (Casanova had a foot fetish, can you believe it?) It’s held its place next to my chaise lounge, where I still regularly pick it up and flip through it, the woman is enchanting.

I’ll be honest, I liked the thought of her and Marilyn Manson together. I’m not gonna lie, the man does it for me. Now, in retrospect, he is not good enough for her, she is way too much woman for him (although the thought of him and Evan Rachael Bitchface together is vomit-inducing, the music video for “Heart Shaped Glasses” notwithstanding). The photo shoot they did for Vogue Magazine was the epitome of decadence and glamour for me. The pictures of the two of them, with her in her purple wedding gown still leave me speechless. Click on that shit, its devastatingly beautiful.

But my favorite pictures of Dita include another out-of-control hot woman, Scarlett Johansson, in a fetish-style photo shoot for Flaunt Magazine in 2006. I don’t know who’s hotter in these pics, and I’m okay with that unsolved mystery.

So happy belated birthday, Dita. Thanks for bringing a little classiness and glamour (did you just say glamour like 50 times?) to a world that thrives on Juicy Couture sweatpants and ponytails. Thank you for taking your clothes off and splashing around in a martini glass. And of course, thanks for letting women of the world know that sexy isn’t just dressing a certain way or being a certain size or shape, its about confidence and wearing and doing what pleases yourself. That’s what sexiness really is.

Enjoy.
