True Blood Premiere at the House of Blues, Chicago 9.4.08
Naturally, when my co-author forwarded me this:
…I had no choice but to RSVP. The venue could not have been more fitting. The Foundation Room at the House of Blues is dark, cavelike-a place I could imagine vampires would find very comfortable. I certainly loved it, not to mention the free booze and food (who said bacon-wrapped scallops and red velvet cupcakes aren’t dinner?). On a side note, both times I’ve been to the House of Blues in Chicago, I’ve walked from work (about a mile), and it’s been raining. It’s a nice walk, SANS DOWNPOUR.
Anycrap, I got to dry myself off next to a fire, in a room draped in silk and velvet, with cathedral-esque stained glass windows. I can see why that place is usually members-only, and by that I mean members of a secret society that wear capes and masks and decide whether people live or die. Okay, so I made that up. But that’s what the place looks like.
The show itself was worthwhile, I’d just finished the book “Dead Until Dark” that day, I’m too impatient not to read it before I saw the show. It paralleled the book pretty well, it seems like they will branch out a bit from the two main characters, develop other characters more, which seems a wise idea for TV. Actually, two of the supporting characters, Tara and Layfayette (played by Rutina Wesley and Nelsan Reynolds, respectively), totally stole the show for me, they both got a lot of laughs from the audience. And besides the bad southern accents, I thought the show was great. Even my ‘non-vamp friendly’ roommate had a good time.
After the show, we bolted to catch a cab, but not before getting our swag, which I was super jazzed about-especially the sample vial of TruBlood, which I of course tasted when I got home. I gagged. I am clearly not a vampire, because that was not delicious to me, it was like Warheads in liquid form, times ten. Ew. It even had a little certificate inside, that read:
“Tru Blood is pure, a substitute for the real thing. It will forever alter the way we live and interact with the human world. You are one of the first to receive a sample and become a pioneer of this eminent change. We invite you to become willing participants on this journey and tell others of our kind what you think of the product. IT HAS BEGUN.” Rad, huh?
I’m super glad I went, but also sad because I don’t have HBO. Bummer. Well, everyone who does should check it out. If for no other reason than the tittie-shot in the first 5 minutes of the show. But the rest is great too.

I actually thought the first Season of True Blood was great, it only took the previews and initial promos to get me excited. Awaiting patiently for Season 2 this June 09
